Time: Slot1 :- 8pm-10pm Slot2 :- 4am-6am, of Sept 22.
Target Group: 45 students of Std 4,5,6.
Presenters: Veerayen and Vijay
We are given two valuable slots during the Camp Fire event which is yearly event held by the school management . First of all, we taking this opportunity to thank the school management for giving us great chance to share the knowledge .
Myself and Vijay reached school at 7pm and immediately started doing scope setup . We were not fortunate enough to view Saturn and Mars, which obscured by the clouds . Furthermore these two celestial objects was quite low in the SW sky . Realizing that, at 8pm, Vijay and myself started to give the introduction speech on the night wonders and continued with some presentation on theories about Solar System and Telescope. Later at 9.15pm, we moved to the exciting part, to view the Crescent Moon. We are lucky though . The sky seems improved during the Moon observation . I set the scope with 32mm eyepiece and let the students, teachers, parents and some former students to take turn watching the Moon. They indeed very excited to see the Moon with its beautiful craters . We ended the Slot 1 session at about 10pm as for the students . But the teachers and parents not stopping looking at the Moon's beauty . Finally, we ended the session at 11pm .
Myself and Vijay, after taking some quick rest/sleep, came back to the school and started the morning session sharp at 4am. The sky was superb . The students had their wonderful moments with Jupiter, Venus and Pleiades. The students were able to identify the Orion Constellation in the sky too. That was their first view of it, be it planets and cons., in the sky after being just only seeing it in the book .
It was already 6am and students were prepared for their next activity . Since the teachers were still there around, I gave them chance to view Andromeda Galaxy through the scope with 32mm eyepiece. They were really astonished seeing it . Beautiful !
The school management gave us, the presenters, the certificate and token of appreciation for conducting the Star Gazing event . In the end we took one nice group picture with teachers and students .
It was really fruitful night . I am sure the participants enjoyed the nights . The precious moments for the entire team .
Thank You SJK(T) Mayfield !!!
